Safari Experience
The safari begins with a presentation where one of our guides informs you about the tour, safety on board, and which animals we can expect to encounter.
Whale Area
After sailing out from Andenes harbor, we continue towards Bleik Canyon to find the highlight of the whale safari - the sperm whale (Physeter macrocephalus). On the way to the open sea, we have the opportunity to encounter other whale species such as:
- Pilot whale (Globicephala melas)
- Minke whale (Balaenoptera acutorostrata)
- Orca (Orcinus orca)
- White-sided dolphin (Lagenorhynchus acutus)
- Porpoise (Phocoena phocoena)
- Humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae)
Each safari is unique, and we can never be entirely sure which whale species await us at sea.
Return to Andenes On the way back, we will serve a warm meal of vegan vegetable soup with bread. Enjoy the boat ride and the views, and feel free to chat with our friendly guides about the day's safari experiences.
Seabirds and Wildlife During the tour, there is an opportunity to see various seabirds and seals resting on the rocks near the harbor. Birds we might see include:
- Sea eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla)
- Puffin (Fratercula arctica)
- Cormorant and shag (Phalacrocorax carbo and Phalacrocorax sinensis)
- Kittiwake (Rissa tridactyla)
- Common guillemot (Uria aalge)
- Razorbill (Alca torda)
Whale Guarantee We see whales on about 98% of our tours, but occasionally we may not find them. For such rare days, we offer our whale guarantee: If we do not see any whales, guests can join a new safari at no extra cost. Guests must contact the reception after the safari.
