The waters off Andøya are unique due to their proximity to Bleik Canyon, a deep-sea trench that attracts a variety of whale species. Together with our researchers, you will have the chance to:
✔️ Map sailing routes
✔️ Observe and identify whale species
✔️ Participate in photo-identification – Learn how a whale’s tail fluke acts as a unique fingerprint
✔️ Listen to whale vocalizations using hydrophones (underwater listening cables)
✔️ Document whale behavior and contribute to important research
Our research provides insights into sperm whale social life, diving behavior, vocal communication, and habitat use, as well as the increasing presence of long-finned pilot whales and Risso’s dolphins in the area.
🔹 Sail close to the whales and observe their natural movements
🔹 Listen to the underwater sounds of these ocean giants – a unique acoustic experience
🔹 Enjoy comfortable facilities, delicious meals, and a warm atmosphere onboard
