Participate in Whale Research

The waters off Andøya are unique due to their proximity to Bleik Canyon, a deep-sea trench that attracts a variety of whale species. Together with our researchers, you will have the chance to:

✔️ Participate in photo-identification – Learn how a whale’s tail fluke acts as a unique fingerprint
✔️ Listen to whale vocalizations using hydrophones (underwater listening cables)

Our research provides insights into sperm whale social life, diving behavior, vocal communication, and habitat use, as well as the increasing presence of long-finned pilot whales and Risso’s dolphins in the area.
